Summary

POL is a designated Census Information Center (CIC), participating in a program by the U.S. Census Bureau, Department of Commerce. The CIC collects and disseminates data from the Census Bureau and other sources upon community request. The CIC focuses on data about the Native Hawaiian (NH) population, conducts and sponsors training workshops for data users in methods of searching for and retrieving information, and assists the Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems (NHHCS) with information and statistics needed to develop programs and funding proposals. A multi-media library and database are maintained for research and resource use. The CIC advocates specifically for disaggregated data on NHs, Census Bureau survey materials in Hawaiian language, appropriate use and collection of data, and improved access to information by underserved communities.

Other activities include technology build-out, electronic connectivity, and developing culturally designed websites bringing increased health information and greater visibility to the services and locations of the NHHCS. POL supports and participates in Tele-Health initiatives through the Hawai`i Federal Health Care Partnership (HFHCP) and other organizations, and data mapping projects.
