Seat #5 maintains the rhythm of seats #1 and #3. In Hawaiian health, it carries the core strength, genealogy, values, and is the spiritual sustenance that supports all on the canoe. Thus, Hawaiian health is assured of commitment to traditional practice and the wisdom of our kūpuna. By supporting the transference of traditional knowledge through the Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems (NHHCS) and other kupuna councils, families have a variety of health care choices.
Summary
POL supports the efforts of kupuna masters and traditionalists toward the understanding, promotion and perpetuation of the Hawaiian healing knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices. We advocate for the preservation and perpetuation of such traditions to ensure that the rights and cultural integrity of Hawaiian healing practices are respected and appropriately protected. Through presentations, demonstrations, workshops and working closely with kūpuna (elders), POL seeks to improve awareness of and sensitivity to Hawaiian cultural processes and the philosophies of spiritual healing, thus assuring that they are included within the larger health and wellness arena. Appropriate protocols compel respect for Native Hawaiian traditional healing practices and the wisdom of our kūpuna.
