Traditional Healing and Complementary Health

Seat five maintains the rhythm of seats one and three. It carries the core strength, fundamental genealogy, values of the canoe, and is the spiritual sustenance supporting all other seats. This representation is the core belief and commitment to traditional practice, and the wisdom of our küpuna. By supporting the transference of traditional knowledge through the Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems (NHHCS) and other entities, families are given a variety of health care choices.

Summary

POL supports the efforts of küpuna masters to practice traditional Hawaiian healing, and to promote the understanding and traditions of these practices. We advocate for the preservation and perpetuation of these activities to ensure that the rights and cultural integrity of traditional Hawaiian healing practices are respected and appropriately protected. Through presentations, demonstrations, workshops and working closely with küpuna (elders), we improve awareness of and sensitivity to Hawaiian cultural processes and the philosophies of spiritual healing, thus assuring their incorporation within the larger health and wellness arena. Appropriate protocols compel respect for Native Hawaiian traditional healing practices and the wisdom of our küpuna.
