We touch lives
Papa Ola Lōkahi, the Native Hawaiian health board, embodies the holistic approach that brings together mind, body, spirit in the pursuit of optimum health and well-being.
Community-based, we are responsible to Hawaiian communities across the pae ‘āina to respond to the visions they have of health and well-being. As a government-designated organization, POL bears the kuleana through both federal and state statute as the lead agency for health policy concerning Native Hawaiians.
We have a dedicated board of directors and a passionate staff that care about our communities and the lives we touch.
We touch the lives of thousands of Hawaiians and their family members who seek health care at one of the five Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems, who seek an exercise program, how to read labels, enroll their keiki into health care coverage, manage their diabetes, get follow-up care on another island, or fix a tooth. We touch those who choose Hawaiian traditions for their healing.
We touch talented Hawaiians who want to serve their communities by entering a medical or allied-health profession. We touch the lives of their patients and clients, such as the rural resident who seeks health care for the first time in 20 years because a new Hawaiian health professional is on island.
We touch Hawaiians whose lives are extended because new research or data has contributed to how patient navigation programs or healthy lifestyle classes are developed. We touch families whose access to care is a little smoother because obstacles have been removed.
We touch the lives of Hawaiians abroad, other Native peoples resident in Hawai‘i, throughout the Pacific and, indeed, the world, as we share data, information, and avenues for them to stay connected to the vibrancy of their kūpuna.
