Pregnant and want Poi? A team of researchers led by a Native Hawaiian wahine from the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center are inviting pregnant women from the windward side of Oʻahu (from Koʻolaupoko to Koʻolauloa) to participate in a 4-week project. The goal of the project is to learn more about how eating poi may support health during pregnancy. Eligible participants will receive 1lb of locally produced poi per day for 28 days. During the project, participants will complete health and food surveys, physical measurements (i.e. height, weight, blood pressure), and collect swab samples to examine changes in pregnancy and gut health. Compensation will be provided for participants’ time and contributions.
